Bad Company 2 has a brand new unlock system that awards players for points earned during their multiplayer career. There are 3 different types of specialization tree’s available to gamers when playing multiplayer. Below is a basic blueprint of how the players equip their unlocks while in game.

Slot 1: Contains performance upgrades for your soldier and gadgets. This slot also contains all weapon scopes.
Slot 2: Contains weapon performance upgrades for any gun or gadget.
Slot 3: Contains Vehicle performance upgrades.
Red Dot Sight

Slot 1 Specialization
Description: A highly effective optical sight providing enhanced point and shoot capability for close quarter combat. It does not emit a laser and therefore is considered a “passive” aiming device.
Field Notes: The Red Dot Sight offers a more precise view when aiming down the sights. Most players will find it much easier to engage targets from mid to long range with this scope. If your comfortable enough with the iron sights, you might want to skip this specialization for a ammo, or mobility upgrade.
MP Unlock: 13,900 Assault Score
4X Rifle Scope

Slot 1 Specialization
Description: 4X optical rifle sight that increases magnification and accuracy for aimed shots at medium ranges
Field Notes: This scope offers a lot more magnification than the Red Dot Sight, making it better suited for targeting enemies at greater distances. Do not bother equipping it on weapons that have poor accuracy at intermediate or long ranges. This scope is most effective when attached to assault rifles, and Light Machine Guns. The 4x does reduce your peripheral vision when zoomed in. This scope can also be attached to Sniper Rifles, offering less magnification than their standard-issue 6X Scopes.

Marksman Assault Rifle Training

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: Assault Rifle modification that uses a fully adjustable fore grip and telescopic stock to custom fit a weapon to its operator. When properly set, it greatly improves handling characteristics and increases the accuracy of aimed fire.
Field Notes: This specialization improves the accuracy of your assault rifle. Marksman training only works when your aiming down the sights with a weapon. It does not offer any benefit to hip fire.
How it works: This Specialization reduces bullet spread by 33% on any gun when aiming down the sight.

Red Dot Sight

Description: This Advanced Medical Kit allows for quick and accurate diagnosis of injured soldiers. It substantially increases the rate of healing to med kits already deployed on the Battlefield.
Field Notes: Equip this specialization to increased the healing rate of your deployed med-kits. This takes up your 1st spec slot which is reserved for scopes and ammo upgrades so be sure to utilize it by throwing down plenty of med-kits to team-mates.
How it Works: This increases your med kits healing rate by 33% resulting in a faster heal time. Just like the regular med-kit, it has a healing radius of 3.5 meters.
MP Unlock: 11,600 Medic Score
Medic Improved Range

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: A modification that extends the range of previously deployed medical kits on the battlefield. It provides longer range healing to seriously injured personnel.
Field Notes: Use this specialization to increase the range of your med-kits. This uses the 2nd spec slot, so you can combine it with the increased heal rate spec, to greatly increase your range and effectiveness on the Battlefield. This will also greatly increase the chance of gaining heal points.
How it Works: This specialization doubles the range of your med kits. The standard medkit has a range of 3.5 meters. When using this Spec, your med kits will have a effective range of 7 meters.

Description: A highly efficient compliment to sniper rifles, this 12X optical sight intensifies zoom power while also providing substantially longer range accuracy. It allows greater stand off striking capability and target engagement.
Field Notes: This High power scope should be used when engaging targets from a very long range. It offers double the range than the standard issue 6x sniper scope. This scope is best utilized on huge maps such as Isla Inocentes, Arica Harbor, and Port Valdez, however, it can be effective in any of the maps.
MP Unlock: 10,000 Recon Score
Sniper Spotting Scope

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: A pivotal advancement in enemy tracking devices, this computer assisted Spotting Scope can pin-point and communicate enemy positions in real-time to the rest of your Squad.
Field Notes: This Scope does not increase magnification at all. Instead it automatically spots targets that you have in your cross-airs. When it spots someone, their position is automatically relayed to your entire squad. When using this scope, try playing purely a support role, by finding a good elevated secluded position and spot enemies all match long. If you do not fire, then you may well live the entire round. It’s a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it.
How it Works: Automatically spots enemies that you have in your cross-airs within a 75 Meter Range.

Lightweight Combat Equipment

Slot 1 Specialization
Description: Designed to maximize the carriers mobility during battle by employing more compact equipment options. This setup dramatically spreads load and allows for more efficient carry capabilities.
Field Notes: This specialization is great to use when your using bulkier weapons such as Light Machine Guns and Large Rifles. This will slightly increase your spring speed as well.
How it Works: Increases spring speed by 10%

Ammo Hip Bandolier

Slot 1 Specialization
Description: This upgraded ammunition pack allows a soldier to stow double the amount of magazines resulting in extended time in contact before resupply.
Field Notes: This Spec can come in handy when using certain types of guns that have low ammo. Use this with the VSS or SVU to keep from having to resupply all of the time. This will increase the maximum ammo your soldier can hold.
How it works: This will increase your maximum ammo by 100%. This does not increase clip size, it only affects the maximum ammo your soldier can hold.
MP Unlock: 53,000 Global Score
Grenade Vest

Slot 1 Specialization
Description: This enhanced Load Bearing Vest doubles the amount of 40MM and hand grenade ammunition a soldier can carry into battle thus extending the time between resupply.
Field Notes: The grenade vest will double the amount of grenades for all kits. It will also double the Assaults grenade launcher ammo count. This comes in handy when playing assault and your tasked with using the smoke grenade attachment to provide cover for your entire team.
How it works: Doubles the amount of hand grenades and assault rifle attachment grenades.
MP Unlock: 67,600 Global Score
Explosives Leg Pouch

Slot 1 Specializaton
Description: Supplementary pouches allowing soldiers to double the amount of explosives and rockets carried into battle. This permits longer time in contact before resupply.
Field Notes: Use this with the engineer to double the amount of rockets he can carry. Use this with the Sniper or Assault Class to double the amount of C4 they can carry. Simply put, this is one of the most useful Specializations you can use.
How it works: Doubles the amount of explosives a soldier can carry
MP Unlock: 83, 400 Global Score
Extended Shotgun Magazine

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: Custom modified shotgun loading tubes and magazines that expand ammunition capacity. This diminishes the need for reload and extends the operators capacity to maintain fire on target.
Field Notes: Use this spec to double the amount of shells your shotgun clip can hold. It’s great to use with any shotgun, especially automatic ones like the SAIGA or USAS-12 Shotguns
How it Works: Doubles the clip size of all shotguns
MP Unlock: 100,400 Global Score
Ceramic Body Armor

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: Referred to as trauma plates, ceramic body armor is inserted into soft ballistic vests providing added protection against enemy fire and preventing damage from reaching fatal proportions during combat.
Field Notes: Out of all of the Specialization’s, this one is probably one of the best. It effectively increases your lifespan by reducing the amount of damage taken. It’s great to use when your a engineer trying to repair tanks in the field, or a medic trying to hang in there and heal your teammates.
How it works: Decreases damage taken by 25%
MP Unlock: 200,700 Global Score
Magnum Ammunition

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: A considerably heavier bullet, its mass and elevated muzzle velocity provides greater damage and increased range.
Field Notes: This is my favorite specialization. Use this specialization to offset engineer’s low submachine gun damage rating, or to buff any other gun that may have a low damage rating. This can really help out in a fire fight.
How it works: Increases Bullet Damage by 25%

Improved Demolitions

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: A refined explosive compound it greatly increases the amount of energy delivered onto target. It adds to the destructive power carried by mobile infantry and engineers.
Field Notes: Use this specialization with the engineer’s Carl Gustav to greatly improve it’s damage rating. Even if the rocket is not a direct hit, it will still one shot kill within a 3 meter radios of the target. This also works on all explosive based weapons such as C4, Mortar Strikes, Hand Grenades and the Assault’s Grenade Launcher Attachments.
How it works: Increases all Explosive Damage by 25%
MP Unlock: 271,600 Global Score
12 Gauge Slugs

Slot 2 Specialization
Description: A 12 gauge Sabot round designed to give shotguns added range in operations outside of Urban areas. It substitutes high power for enhanced range and precision accuracy.
Field Notes: This can instantly turn a shotgun into a mid range sniping machine. Use this with the Neostead 2000 to get the most out of it’s power and effect. Beware, once you use this, you lose the close range spread damage you would get from regular shotgun shells.
How it Works: Enables the shotgun to be aimed down the sights, for a mid to long range kill. It makes any shotgun very accurate.
MP Unlock: 247,200 Global Score

Electronic Warfare Package

Slot 3 Specialization
Description: The next technological advancement in vehicle sensors, these enhanced tracking devices mark the position of enemy units in direct proximity of the vehicle and display them on the mini map. Added security when infantry support is unavailable.
Field Notes: This is probably one of the specializations you won’t really use. There are so many other specs that offer better perks. However this spec is best used when in a tank or bradly in a urban environment, where enemies can basicly be anywhere. This will act just like the recon’s motion sensor, and detect enemies within it’s range. It also is able to detect C4, and Landmines.
How it works: Detects Enemy soldiers, Landmines, and C4 within a 20 Meter Radius of center of vehicle.
MP Unlock: 1,180 Vehicle Score
Active Armor Upgrade

Slot 3 Specialization
Description: An armor upgrade package that enhances a vehicles resistance to anti-armor munitions. This upgrade helps decrease the effects and damage of otherwise lethal hits.
Field Notes: The Vehicle Armor upgrade is one of the most useful vehicle specs there is. It’s great to use on tank heavy maps like Arica Harbor when attacking the first section can be troublesome. Also use this when driving the light skinned Apache Helicopter to enable you to stay in the air longer.
How it Works: Increases Vehicle Armor by 25%
MP Unlock: 2,330 Vehicle Score
Improved Warheads Package

Slot 3 Specialization
Description: With hardened steel warheads and quick burn explosives compounds., this upgrade substantially increases the effectiveness of the vehicles primary weapons. In turn it allows a vehicle to provide a considerable Force Multiplier to mission requirements.
Field Notes: The improved warheads package is very deadly on tanks. You can basically tear up infantry with one shot from a heavy tank, even if it’s not a direct hit. It’s also great to use with the Apache or HIND as it makes it so much easier to down infantry with it’s weapon based missiles. This really makes your tank or heli a anti-infantry force, as well as a vehicle destroying machine.
How it Works: Increases Vehicle weapons damage by 25%

Quick Reload Package

Slot 3 Specialization
Description: These enhanced ammunition racks diminish the time needed for re-loading the vehicles primary weapons. It reduces the vulnerability to enemy attacks during reload stops.
Field Notes: This specialization will give you every soldier a slight edge when facing a Tank Vs Tank battle. This will reduce reload time on all vehicle weapons, even the UAV.
How it works: Reduces Vehicle Reload time by 25%
MP Unlock: 5,000 Vehicle Score
Smoke Countermeasures Package

Slot 3 Specialization
Description: A smoke grenade system consisting of 6 launchers. When fired it generates a 360 degree smoke screen around the vehicle. It obscures equipment and personnel from aimed enemy fire.
Field Notes: This is a great way to escape losing tank battles by deploying a smoke screen that will briefly conceal your position. This will also keep you from getting spotted from enemies that have direct line of sight with you. This can also be used with the UAV, and be used as a support role by reigning down smoke pellets to provide cover for your team-mates.
How it Works: Adds a Smoke launcher to vehicles such as tanks, and UAV’s. It has a reload time of 20 seconds.

High Power Optics Package

Slot 3 Specialization
Description: A High Power Optics Package that provides an armored vehicle driver the ability to engage and destroy targets from greater range. It effectively provides stand-off distance while still permitting accurate fire.
Field Notes: This specialization applies to tanks and IFV’s, giving you a zoom function mapped to the secondary fire button. You can zoom in on distant targets and bombard them from long range, however be ready to elevate the barrel to compensate for gravity’s effect on your munitions. It’s also effective when piloting Helicopters and UAV’s.
How it Works: Makes your alternate fire a zoom button for tanks, UAV’s, Helicopters and other IFV’s.
MP Unlock: 8,000 Vehicle Score
Alternate Weapon Package

Slot 3 Specialization
Description: A weapons package that upgrades the targeting systems of vehicles and helicopters. It extends the effective range and accuracy of mounted weapons.
Field Notes: The Alternate fire spec is any soldiers best friend. It opens up so many possibilities for all vehicles. It gives tanks a remote .50 cal machine gun, helicopters a TOW Missile, and UAV’s a coaxial .50 cal mounted machine gun. This is particularly effective when used with the UAV because it provides you with a alternate weapon during the UAV’s long 30 second reload time.
How it Works: Gives every vehicle a alternate fire option. It’s different for every vehicle, so try it out on everything. Right mouse button is alternate fire by default.

The 4X Rifle Scope for Recon seems rather redundant.

These unlocks are not in the correct order (at least for the PC version), perhaps they were in Beta but it’s changed. For example, Magnum Ammo unlocks at Rank 15 and the burst fire pistol unlocks at Rank 13 (on the All Kits Weapons page). There’s a few other ones that are a bit off. Ceramic Body armor unlocks at Rank 14, etc. Other than this though, beautiful site.

The 4X scope is actually a really useful trick. You can use the high power of a bolt action at medium range. Most people don’t expect it.

Has anyone verified that the Sniper Spotting Scope actually works? I’ve tried it several times and I can’t see it doing anything regardless of a target’s range.
I’m running the PC version.
@av Yes the spotter scope does work, I’ve used it myself quite a bit. It does seem to have some trouble picking up on enemies who are slightly concealed behind cover, and don’t forget about that max of 75m.
is anyone else infuriated by some of the choices DICE made for us?
the mix of slots for unlocks is BS. why should you sacrifice body armor for magnum ammo? you should sacrifice body armor for lightweight speed or for extra grenades. you swap red dots for 12x scopes, not medkit range. you swap things for things like them. sheesh.
same for vehicles: make you earn seven but pick one. does anyone use any vehicle unlock besides alternate fire?
the spotting cooldown is BS, as is the 75m range limit, and it’s ridiculous that skill buffs like marksman “training” actually cost a slot.
worst is the notion of magnum ammo or enhanced demolitions. complete fantasy BS. DICE got it right that experience should improve accuracy, so they include marksman training; then they stuff that up by making the benefit optional and take a slot. on top of that, to also reward experience with magic weapons is a page from an RPG, and not the good kind.
